Eligible for 1948 Case?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Eligible for 1948 Case?

Post by EPenguin »

Hi, I'm new to the forum and have enjoyed reading many posts and learning from you! Trying to determine my eligibility for a 1948 case. I appreciate any feedback! I reached out to 2 companies online, but both are too busy with high demand and can't take any new cases until next month.

My GGF immigrated from Anzano di Puglia to Boston March 1, 1900 (found the ship manifest on Ancestry) and naturalized Aug. 31, 1906. I found this naturalization card on Ancestry. I also found an application for a US passport on Ancestry applied for August 22, 1912.

He got the US passport to go to Italy and marry my GGM in Anzano di Puglia. She immigrated to the US and arrived April 30, 1913 in Boston. They arrived together (found ship manifest) and it says they both were naturalized. I read online that she would have automatically got her naturalization when she married him.

I can't find any record where my GGM specifically applied to naturalize (natz) on her own. I've requested records from USCIS. Would I be eligible for a 1948 case through her? My grandfather was born in the US after she arrived here in 1913.

I found both of them on the US Census.

1920:
GGF arrived 1900 natz 1908
GGM arrived 1913 natz 1908
I assume 1908 is a typo? Because GGF seems to have natz in 1906? But this would seem to indicate she got her natz through him and not independent.

1930:
GGF arrived 1900 natz (doesn't say year)
GGFM arrived 1913 natz (doesn't say year)

1940:
GGF natz (doesn't say additional info)
GGM alien (doesn't say additional info)

THEN

GF born 1928 in Boston, married an Irish-American woman
Father born 1954
Me (female)
