Rocco Barbato, age 18, farmer, born in Orsogna, resident in Orsogna, son of Eleuterio (Barbato), a resident of Orsogna, and of Maria Luigia d’Alleva, resident of this comune, and

Teresa Costantini, age 19, farmer, born in Orsogna, resident in this comune, daughter of Giuseppe (Costantini), residence unknown, and of Maria d’Alleva, resident of Orsogna

who requested to be united in marriage. All documents having been filed, the spouses took their vows before witnesses Vincenzo Pace, age 71, landowner, and Francesco Rizzacasa, age 60, firework technician, both residents of this comune. The documents presented included certification of the publications of intent, first on April 7 and second on April 14. To the said marriage only the consent of the parents of the groom and mother of the bride is given, not having been able to obtain the consent of the father of the bride, as explained in the publication of intent. The act read to the participants, only the witnesses signed because the spouses do not know how to write.

Thank you! Is it to be assumed that the bride's father abandoned the family since his residence is unknown and didn't give consent to the marriage? If her parents weren't married when she was born would both parents be stated on her marriage registry? From what I have seen having birth records translated, is that only the father's name has been mentioned even if the mother's name was known.

He might or might not have abandoned them. It's possible he was working abroad, but certainly he may have abandoned them.
