While I was looking for my ancestor Niccolo Lampasi, I came across the surname "Lopez" in the Monreale church books, which I recognized as Spanish. If I'm deciphering this correctly, it says "Emmanuele, figlio delli quondam Giovanni et Maria Lopez, di Spagna", or "Emmanuele, son of the deceased Juan and Maria Lopez from Spain".
Am I correct here? This isn't my ancestor, but I still think it's interesting, because it's the first time I've seen someone who wasn't born in Sicily in a Sicilian records, and I've researched dozens and dozens of my Sicilian ancestors off and on since 2015.
Were Emmanuele Lopez's parents from Spain?

The surname Lopez is still present in Italy, particularly in Puglia, it is not very rare and it is evidently due to immigrations from Spain.
