Record date: May 21st, 1850
The Registrar Office received a note from the "Commissione degli Ospizi" of Chieti, with the same date, saying that on the day before, at 2:30pm, a male child was left in the wheel. He seemed to have just been born, in a good health, wrapped in rags, and with a note requesting to give him name "Diogene Laerzio". He was baptized in the Doom of Chieti on the same day 21st.
The note on the left side says he married Filomena Damiano in Orsogna on Aug 24th, 1876.
Witnesses were:
Giustino Palombaro, 68yo, barber, (can't read the address where he lived)
Silvestro Razionale, 36yo, shoemaker, living at "Strada sotto le scalelle"
both in Chieti
Giuseppe "Pippo" Moccaldi

Thank you for this translation. It is really sad. This may have been his only hope to be orphaned. Is it not strange they asked for him to be named a first and last name?

What is still stranger is that Diogene Laerzio was a Greek historian living in the 3 century AD. Whoever abandoned this child had a classical education..
