Handwritten Italian letters to English needed

Post by WBifulco »

Hi,

For years, I've rec'd letters written in Italian from distant cousins in Naples. I would then send the letters to Ireland where we have a friend who would translate and send the letters back to us in the USA. However, he's become quite busy as of late so I'm searching for another way to get some help.

As a side note, during my earlier college years, my college Italian professor pulled me aside and said, "...after 3 semesters, you're just not getting it are you?" So we parted ways with a smile and I'm forever in debt to the kindness of others in helping me with translations

Anyway, I have a couple of handwritten letters, some dating back 100 years and some as recent as this week. Is this a forum that can help with Italian to English translations? If so, is it as simple as attached a PDF file to this forum?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Willie - Google provides decent (and free) translations. All you have to do is search for "Italian to English translation" and the Google page will appear. Type what you see in the letter where it says "Enter Text" (in the Italian side of the page); as you write, the translation will appear in English. Some archaic words and phrases cause Google to give you odd results, but you can work around those by entering single words from your letter.

I've used Google's Italian-to-English translator at least a hundred times, and gotten usable results.
