Hi can someone please help me translate this Marriage Banns #114 for Giovanni D'ambrosio
and Elisabetta Bruttone from 1851.

Giovanni Ambruoso or d'Ambruoso (groom) son of Carmine (died in Scafati on Dec. 22nd 1825) and Angela Vellera or Cellera, was born in Scafati on May 16th, 1817.
Maria Paola Elisabetta Bruttone (bride), daughter of Mattia and Rosa D'Angelo, was born in Aversa on June 28th, 1829.

Maria Paola Elisabetta Bruttone (bride), daughter of Mattia and Rosa D'Angelo, was born in Aversa on June 28th, 1829.

Among the other documents in the file there are:

• The death certificate of Tommaso d'Ambruoso, husband of Carmela Berritto, who passed away in Scafati on April 12th 1805, presumably Carmine's father and the groom's grandfather, in order to prove that the correct surname should be "d'Ambruoso" and not just "Ambruoso";

• The military discharge document of the groom, where his name is spelled as "Giovanni d'Ambrogio";

• The certificate of no impediment to marry for the bride, where her name is spelled as "Elisabetta Bortone".

Marriage banns were made for two weeks from 17 August 1851 in the respective "Comuni" of Scafati and Aversa.

The "Promessa di matrimonio" was signed by the bride and groom in the Comune of Aversa on Sep. 24th 1851, the marriage was celebrated on the same day in the parish Church of St. John the Baptist.

Here is the original death record for Carmine Ambruoso which I have translated for you. He died in 1835. I always find it is best to look for the original record as sometimes there is clerical error in the “Extracts” that you find in the processetti.

Death No 119: Carmine Ambruoso
Registered in Scafati, province of Salerno, 23 December 1835
Appearing was Antonio Ambruoso, 46 yo, bracciale (day labourer), living in this town (Scafati), brother of the deceased; and Francesco Maisano, 72 yo, Serviente (Attendant), also living in this town. They reported that on 22 December 1835, 8 am, in the Fiume Sarno, Carmine Ambruoso, 50 yo, husband of Angela Vellica died. He was born in Scafati, a bracciale, living in Scafati, the son of deceased Tommaso, also a bracciale, and of deceased Carmina Berritto, who had both lived in Scafati.

You are very welcome for the help, Christine. I don't know for certain that he drowned, that's why I added the question mark. It doesn't say in the record that he drowned, just that he died in the River Sarno. I've had two of my ancestors drown and it did say in the record that they drowned.
