Deciphering witness vocation on Death Act

This is a link to my 2GGm's Atti di Morte (Elena Del Brusco). I'm trying to translate the vocation of one of the witnesses, Carlo Gianfriglia.

It looks like it could be "industriane", but I can't tell for sure. Since most of my family's witnesses were contadini with the occasional bovaro or related, this intrigues me.

Any help with this appreciated...

I'd say industriante which we usually translate as a manufacturer/trader. However I have also seen it explained as an entrepreneur. If you search here on the forum you may find it has a different meaning in different towns. Carlo was one of the men registering the death not a witness.

I see "industriante". Some of these terms for professions are archaic, and not used any longer to mean the same type of work. I'll let the native Italian speakers offer the translation.

Not sure that this helps though as you really need to look at the occupation in the time frame of our civil records.

Thank you, Angela and Terra for the clarification. Yes, assistant, not witness, I knew that, I was thinking about 2 things at once.

Since Gianfriglia is native to Labico and not necessarily Valmontone, I can possibly assume based on the description above that Carlo may possibly have run a large farm between the 2 neighboring communes...

I was mainly curious as to what it might be, as I hadn't seen it before. One of my DNA matches is a Gianfriglia, that's another reason. My cousin Debbie noticed it (he is also a shared match with her) -- I had not paid well enough attention, I guess.

His line hails from Labico, the next commune to the WNW. I believe one of my 3GGm's is also from Labico -- at least her surname is common there. The 2 communes are close together, with just a bit of farmland in-between. No real industry in that area at the time period in question -- pretty much completely agricultural...
