Could anyone tell me what the unit of money was back in the 1820’s in Sicily? I have found some information concerning the purchase of an ancestral farm. The document is in English and I am unable to see the original Italian version. The English translation says that the land was “purchased for the big amount of 8.000 ounce.” Can anyone explain what an ounce is or if it is simply a mistranslation of some other unit of currency. Thank you so much for an information or insight you might provide.
