Help finding spouse of Annunziato Pompa of Artena

Post by MarcuccioV »

I'm trying to follow up on a DNA match in the UK to see how we connect. On his maternal side, his Gf on his tree was listed as 'Annunziata Pompa' (I assumed it was really Annunziato) born in "Italy" with his Gm just listed as Helena (no birthplace).

I found the surname Pompa in Artena, a stone's throw from my grandparent's birthplace of Valmontone. In checking Artena records, I found Annunziato (b. 1903). On his birth record it shows he married a 'Fontana Elena' in Valmontone on Nov 29, 1930. It also states the atti di matrimonio can be found in the Artena register (Pt 2 Serie 'B') for 1930.

Since marriages were generally in the bride's commune, I checked Valmontone for the 1930 marriage act. It is listed in the index as #53. That page is a platform error (Grrrrrrrrr).

I checked Antenati (indice decenali) for the marriage act in Artena & found an entry (1930) for Annunziato Pompa and Elena "Fanfoni". In the single year (1930) marriage acts, platform errors again turn me away.

Both Fontana and Fanfoni are prevalent in Valmontone. Fanfoni can also be found in Artena. Except I cannot locate a birth act for an "Elena" with EITHER surname in EITHER commune. The marriage acts for 1930 in both towns are platform errors on Antenati so I can't view those records (extremely frustrating). The marriage bann records on FamilySearch jump from 1929 to 1931 (1930 missing) -- also very frustrating.

Maybe someone else will have better luck. I'm hoping to find the connection which MIGHT help me to fill in some holes in my tree that I haven't yet been able to fill...

BTW, Annunziato died in Valmontone in February of 1986, so apparently only his daughter (or children, and possibly Elena/Helena) went to Britain.

You have to be patient, as such "platform errors" often vanish after some time (weeks).
Or maybe they'll finally migrate to the new system, and solve all the problems.

Yes, I know. Thanks for checking, Pippo.

I've had issues before with Antenatii. Seems like only the pages I need are having issues, others are fine.

<sigh>

I'll keep trying...

Thank you, mmogno..! Two questions, though -- Since the groom was living in Artena and the bride in Rome, why the marriage in Valmontone..? Also, I can't quite make out the father of the bride, is it Eneo..?

Also of interest to me is Annunziato's Gm (Maria Priori's mother) was a Bucci, as was Elena's mother. I have genetic matches to the surname Bucci, but no direct connections. It was also my grandfather's younger sister's husband's name -- and he was also from Rome...

I found the likely "Bucci" connection I noted above. Turns out it they were some of my grandfather's first cousins on his maternal side...

It turns out Enea Fontana, Emilia Bucci & their daughter Elena were ALL born in Valmontone and moved to Rome later. So the documents are partially incorrect.

Emilia Bucci and my grandfather were also 1st cousins. Surprise, surprise, surprise..!
