Could I have some help with transcribing the death record for Maria Bulfamante. What is the day she died? What is her father's name? Is the mother's name Bartola a first or last name?
Thanks,
Tammy

Re: Maria Bulfamante death record translation
Date of death 3 Nov 1847. Father's name hard to read; could be Casimiro. Bartola is a surname found in Italy but not popular. The officials most often rely on the information they are given by the declarants, who may or may not know complete names -- sometimes not at all...tblakely31 wrote: 05 Aug 2022, 03:01 https://www.antenati.san.beniculturali. ... 53/Lqlzy3q

Thank you so much MarcuccioV!
I just found this other death record I believe with the same father and same mother. It looks like it has more to her name. Are you able to read the parents names on this one? Do you think it would be same parents?
Thanks!

To answer your question, the name Bartola is both a given name and a surname, but in the 1847 record you posted, I believe it is a given name.
This is what I am reading:
Maria’s parents were Castrenze Bulfamante and Bartola (surname not given), both deceased. Date of death was 3 November 1847, as Mark has said.. Maria was 50 yo, the widow of the deceased Santo Peri.
Cosimo’s parents were Castrenze Bulfamante and Bartolamea Pasquale, both deceased. Date of death was 13 January 1837. He was 66 yo
So the name Pasquale is also a given name and a surname, but in the 1837 record it is Bartolamea's surname. Get's confusing doesn't it. Generally, you'll see that there is an order in the records, so either you'll see the surname first, followed by the given name/s or the opposite, so you can just check to see how the other names in the record have been written when you are not certain. In your records it looks to be given name/s first, surname last.

AngelaGrace56,
Thank you so much for the information it is very helpful! Since I am back to late 1700's for ancestors born, do you know if records exist from that time? I haven't seen any online but would the comune of Montemaggiore have them?
I'm not sure if I am as far back as I can go or if I should keep searching this line.
Thank you again!

Glad you found the info helpful, Tammy.
So, re earlier records for Montemaggiore Belsito, you will need to go to parish records for those. There are no bdms online before 1820 for your town. Other forum users in the past have researched Montemaggiore Belsito, so what you might like to do is set up a separate post for Montemaggiore Belsito, asking for feedback/advice on what other people have found helpful for locating bdms before 1820 in the town. That's what I would suggest. Sorry I can't be of more help with this one.
