Assistance with land owner list

Post by delfgill »

Hello,

Does anyone have time to transcribe pages from the attached link?

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... MEIAe6Dz2k

It appears to be a list of land owners. I am most interested in the references to Senatore Balsano who appears on:

Page 119: under the heading “Possiede”

Page 184: at the top of the page

Page 234: at the top of the page

Page 294: 3/4s of the way down the page

Page 324: middle of the page

Thank you very much!!!

I'd have to spend more time looking at it, but the mention of Senatore Balsano on page 119 might just be to identify the boundaries of property owned by someone else (whose name I can't read), meaning Balsano owns neighboring property (probably described elsewhere in the documents).

By contrast, the listing on page 184 looks like it is for property owned by Balsano. It includes household members and their ages.

Page 234 also looks like property he owns, page 294 looks like an index, and page 324 looks like a summary.

I'm more familiar with Riveli from Sicily. Perhaps Maestro Pippo (or others) will translate for you. It would take me forever. and a day.

Thank you for taking a look. I would be very interested in the references that list his family members.

Hopefully someone else will have time to take a look :)

I'll start the conversation, and, I'm sure others will comment.

Page 184
Senatore Balsano, (his father's name is abbreviated, I can't make it out), master of the house? age 31

Stefano, ???, also master? age 29?

Rosa, ???, age 27?

Don Francesco Balsano, ???, priest?, age 34

Doesn't appear to be a wife or children present.

Did Balsano hold the office of senator or is that his given name?

Property listings follow.

Where's Pippo when you need him?

I thought his father's name might be Ruggerio? Is that a family name?

I wonder if they are all siblings? The word after the names of Stefano and Francesco might be brother (fratello?) and the word after Rosa might be sister (sorella?)?

My apologies for the delayed response. ItalianGenealogy has suddenly stopped sending message alters to my email. I’ve tried resetting my preferences several times over the past week but it’s not working!

Given that the year of the records are 1754, my guess is that Senatore is the grandfather of the Senatore I am researching. My Senatore is listed on birth, marriage and death records as being the son of Vincenzo and Maria Coppola. I know of one brother, Ferdinando. I'm hoping the information in the land records will hold a clue.

Ferdinando was a doctor and mayor of Roggiano. He later became a priest.

Thanks again for your help. Hopefully Pippo can access the pdf version you've attached.

Prego.

So, Senatore and Stefano were farm owners (massaro di campo)? I'm used to Riveli so I assumed it said they were heads of household. My mistake. I pretty much had the rest correct.
