Puntorno

Post by aliciaP »

Hi! I'm looking for information on the Puntorno family and would like to know more about the name's origins. It seems to be an unusual name, so information is scarce. Is anyone here familar with this name?

Hi Alicia,

Welcome to the forum.

If you can provide more specific information, we sure will try to help.

1st names? birth year? Immigration year? Where he/she/they settled?

What documentation have you already obtained on the family?

Research goal?

:)

I have one name, my great-grandfather Francesco Puntorno who was born in 1880. His place of birth may have been Palermo, but I am not certain of this. I haven't been able to find records of him yet, but I'm still looking.

I am also interested in the origin of the name itself, what it means, etc.

I believe that he settled in NY, but later lived in NJ. I have the birthdate of one of his children, my grandfather Joseph Charles Puntorno, 1917-1997. His wife was Mary Pisciotta (1896-1974). I do not know much about her though.

Puntomo is not showing up on distribution map ( http://www.gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/genera.html ) of Italy nor in manifest databases nor on ancestry.com, so it probably isn't the original spelling of the name......Lets see what we can find.

Ok....let us know what your mother thinks. Still looking for the 1930 census for them.

Note: 1910 & 1920 shows Frank coming in 1905 & an Alien, 1920 shows him as being naturalized in 1919 & wife, Mary born in New York.....If this is the correct family, suggest getting their marriage record & his naturalization papers.

Keep us posted.

Hi Alicia,

The LDS Church (Mormans) has filmed the civil records (birth, marriage & death acts) + the church records (sacraments) for the town of Montelepre.
