Help on Joseph Solari (Solary) from Chiavari

I'm trying to find out more about my 6x grandfather named Joseph Solari (or Solary or Soulari or Solarie). According to research that my mother did before her passing is that Joseph Solari was from Chiavari, Genoa area.

However, I have not been able to find out anything about him in Italy.

I know that he settled in southern Louisiana in the late 1700s or early 1800s,

Are there resources available online that might guide or direct me into finding out more about him?

One thing that I was told is that he escaped from prison, went to France, and then left on a boat for Louisiana. However, there are no sources other than conversations passed down from generation to generation.
