Ricciardi is a variation of the base name Riccardi and is found thruout Italy but the origin can be both German and Norman. The origin in those areas was RIKIA (Powerful) and HARDHU (Strong and valiant) and became Riccardo and Ricciardo by the ancient french imported into Italy by them, the Franks and the Angoini northern peoples where it was originally known as Rizzardo.
