Identification of an antique red wax seal with an Italian? heraldic device

Post by Piranesi »

Hello:

I am researching a 16th century Italian painting on a wood panel. To the reverse of the panel is a group of six wax seals - three are red, two are black, one is green. Attached is an image of one of the red seals, which appears imprinted with a heraldic device, and is presumably Italian.

My hope is that some member of this board may be able to identify this device, which may (or may not) represent a past owner.

Also attached is a detail of another red seal to the reverse of the panel. This consists of two interlocked letters, framed in a laurel? wreath of sorts. Again, this is very likely Italian; and I will be grateful for any insight with the identity of this seal.

Many thanks for your consideration.

Best,
David
