Sicilian proverb:

"Cui sputa 'n celu, 'n facci cci torna."

If you spit in the air, it will hit you in the face.

What does this mean?

So, it's use is widespread throughout Italy. I thought it was only Sicilian.

Anyway, I thought it might have to do specifically with offending God - don't spit at heaven - but it looks a caution to be more humble in general.
