Santa Flava / Sòlanto / Porticello in 18th-19th century riveli

Post by williamsburger »

I'm trying to find any records from this general area in the riveli di beni e anime, but so far I haven't had any luck. I know that my ancestors came from Solanto/Porticello. From what I know, Santa Flavia was known as Solanto until 1880, but according to this law I found, the comune of Solanto was only created in 1826. Does this mean that residents in what would become "Solanto" in 1826 would have been counted as part of Palermo in the riveli of 1811? That is to say, is it possible that the records for these villages are somewhere within FamilySearch's records for Palermo — perhaps one of the feudi?

(One additional point of confusion for me is that the comune of Bagheria was also established in 1826 as part of the same law, yet FamilySearch breaks it out as a separate record set.)

It is important to note that the availability of records varies depending on sources and time periods. Parish and civil registers are often the main sources of genealogical research. FamilySearch may have specific collections for Palermo and surrounding areas, including the villages mentioned. I recommend checking out FamilySearch and doing targeted searches using specific place names and time periods to find relevant records.

Thanks for this reply. I’ve already exhausted the relevant records on FamilySearch and Antenati, unfortunately. The civil records for this area don’t begin until 1820, and FamilySearch only has church records for a handful of earlier years. They do, however, have riveli for Palermo beginning in the 1500s, which are available for viewing at affiliate locations. That’s why I was hoping someone might be able to give me some guidance.
