Help translating death record Filippo Torri

Post by deigo1 »

Hello could someone help with the translation of this record. I believe this to be the death record of my GGF, as I believe I'm seeing his son in law (my grandfather - Domenico Guidotti) one of the reporter of death.

https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 84/02rZ1rX (bottom entry they are not numbered)

Randomly there are two Fillippo Torri's deaths in all of the years for the Napoleonic era records for the town, and the other one happens to be on the top of the following page, I was curious the age of this person as I have been unable to make it out.

Thanks,
D.

The first one says that Filippo Torri passed away on Oct 23, 1809; he was 74 years old, a tenant farmer; widower of Maria Giovanna Fabbri. Witnesses: Giovanni Battista Torri, his brother, and Domenico Guidotti, 35 years old, both tenant farmers and living in the same place (Ca' dei Socci in Gaggio).

The second one was 84 years old, passed away on Oct 30, a land-owner. Widower of Domenica Torre, and resident in Gaggio at Ara di Don Francesco. One of the witnesses was Angelo Torri, 42 years old, son of the deceased

Thank you as always Pippo.

I have to think the first entry is the Filippo I was looking for my GGF x 6. I know his daughter, Catterina, and Domenico Guidotti were also living in this same area named Ca' dei Socci by the birth records you had helped translate prior. The birth records I was was able to find in the Napoleonic era one child was named Filippo and the other name Maria Giovanna, which also aligns. In the death of their child Filippo Guidotti, the other person reporting with Domenico was a 60 year old Givoanni Battista Torri, so likely Catterina's uncle now we know he was Filippo's brother.

Unfortunately the marriage certificate from 1800 didn't list the mother for Catterina or Domenico, just the fathers.

One more quick question, for the first entry, do the last few lines indicate who Filippo parents are? I thought I was making out the words Commune of Belevedere (which is likely Lizzano en Belevedere) maybe from where he was from originally or the church?

You are right! I thought the final lines were the usual declaration about reading and signing the act.
Instead, it says that the witnesses declared that Filippo was born in Belvedere (Lizzano in Belvedere), Parish of Grecchi and Gabba (hamlets of Lizzano), son of the deceased Giovanni Torri, and Giovanna Borzini, tenant farmers, resident in Belvedere when alive.

Thanks again Pippo!

Knowing he was originally from Gabba makes sense, I bet the families (fathers) knew each other. As when my grandmother (his daughter) married my grandfather he was living in Gabba.
