Help with marriage record

Post by pjy2jc »

Hello, all.

Please see this marriage record from Conversano in 1819. Specifically, is the record indicating that Franceso was fostered or adopted by Giovanni and Antonia Roscino?

Thank you.

Hi Christine, it's been a while. Hope all is well. Giovanni Alesandro and Antonia Roscino were Francesco's parents. There is absolutely no indication there of him being adopted or fostered. He was their minor son which means he hadn't reached the age of maturity yet and his parents were there to give support and to give their consent for the marriage to take place, as were the parents of the bride, for the same reason.

Hi Angela!

So glad to hear from you! Thank you for the information. My concern was with the word after "minore", which I can't really tell. Is it "oppostito"? What is that word?

Christine, that word after minore is "assistito". It is written throughout the marriage records that year, as applicable, after the word "minore"". Not sure that I have seen it before in a marriage record but I am understanding the word in the context of the marriage records to mean that the parents were present and supportive, The direct translation is what it sounds like, assisted, but has broader meanings in different contexts. Hope this helps. I am somewhat "reading between the lines". :)

Yes, my friend, I am very well, thank you. (Just very busy at times. It's either a feast or a famine :) )
