When you take a DNA test can you register using an alias?

You can give whatever name you want; they don't require ID. There are also privacy settings where you can use an alias (public profile) or keep your results private except for anyone you want to share with (ie: your brothers). You'll have plenty of options.

In my case, going public has been a bonus, but everyone's motives are different, I suppose...

Okay, I'll use Pippo.

But if there's a data breach the person who paid for the test under their real name and credit card might be disclosed tying them to the DNA results, correct?

Buy a Visa gift card & pay with that... Don't use your real name.

Good suggestion.

I guess one downside is for matching, as matches won't recognize the alias.

Any updates on the best company for detecting "Sicilian" ancestry, preferably as a percentage.

You can always contact potential matches yourself, & give them real names.

I suggest 23 & me as best for Sicily, although you'll get a map showing strength of region, no percentages...

I believe once tested, you can upload your GEDCOM to FTDNA, MyHeritage and GedMatch without cost, but you'll need to confirm. I have found merit in one way or another from all of them. MyHeritage best for European matches.
