Vittoria Fiorello Caracciolo/Francesca Delfino

Post by Amansolillo »

Hello,

I am seeking assistance in identifying the mother of Vittoria Fiorello/Caracciolo. Vittoria was a foundling born in Catona in 1846 (https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 42/Lz1azaE). In 1869, she was recognized as the daughter of Giovanni Caracciolo and later took the Caracciolo last name. Vittoria died in 1889 in Reggio Calabria. Her death record indicates Francesca Delfino as being her mother (https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 93/037QEjZ). Francesca is listed as being deceased by 1889. Other than Vittoria's death record, I am unable to find any other information on Francesca. It does not appear Giovanni Caracciolo and Francesca Delfino were married. I found the document of Vittoria being recognized by Giovanni in 1869, but I am unable to read all of it and am unsure if it mentions anything about her mother:

It doesn't say anything about her mother, but it says she had been raised in Caracciolo's home

Hi,
Have you found the marriage between Vittoria and Raffaele Zagari?

At her wedding on 18 november 1869 (in church) Vittoria was still named Fiorello and her parents are unknown. I don't know if you are interested, but in case, her groom was Rafaele Zagari son of the late Giuseppe Zagari born in Scilla.

Between 1816 and 1830 in Catona I've found:
22 july 1818 is baptized Francesca Dalfino daughter of Francesco Dalfino and Caterina Comis.
18 april 1824 is baptized Francesca Delfino daughter of Carlo Delfino and Marianna Santoro.
31 may 1824 is baptized Grazia Francesca Delfino daughter of Giovanni Delfino and Giovanna Barillà.
9 febuary 1827 is baptized Francesca Delfino daughter of Giovanni Delfino and Anna Barillà.
You'll probably know that the names Delfino and Dalfino are interchangeable.
Of course it's not sure that one of these is "your" Francesca, but it might be worth giving them a closer look.

I have reason to suspect that the Francesca Delfino born to Francesco Delfino and Caterina Comis is potentially Vittoria's mother. I found a marriage record of Francesca Delfino and Domenico Giuseppe Candido in 1839 in Catona. Vittoria was most definitely a product of an extramarital affair, so Francesca already being married does not eliminate the prospect of her being the mother. However, I cannot seem to find any death record for this specific Francesca Delfino in Catona from 1846-1889.

I found that Francesca Delfino, daughter of Francesco Delfino and Caterina Comis, died on 13 May 1894 in Catona (https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 36/5GNeb9g). I am wondering if Vittoria's death record may have incorrectly labeled her as deceased. The reason I believe her to be Vittoria's mother is because Vittoria's son Francesco Zagari (1875-1936) has emerged as a person of interest in determining the parentage of an orphan, Guglielmo Babelli, who was born in Rome in 1905 to unknown parents (https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 7/wEJmgK7/). Guglielmo's son took an Ancestry DNA test and I am confident that Francesco Delfino and Caterina Comis are Guglielmo's ancestors due to research I have done into his DNA matches. I am also similarly confident that Guglielmo is from the Zagari family. In addition, Francesco Zagari is known to have died in Rome (https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 13/0AVbaP7). Unfortunately, I am unable to find any additional information on Francesco Zagari, such as how long he had lived in Rome, if the wife listed on his death record is Guglielmo's mother, or when/where they married.
