the notification records are valuable!

Post by TomAlciere »

It took me years before it dawned on me. My immigrant great-grandfather's maternal grandmother, Maria Casaletto, died in Potenza (PZ) and the death record didn't provide much because the declarants didn't know much. I knew my immigrant great-grandfather's mother was born 1 October 1846 in Potenza, but I couldn't find her parents' marriage.
.
Then it dawned on the to check the Matrimoni, memorandum notificazioni ed opposizioni and wouldn't you know, there's a document that says, Hey everybody, (who can read, that is) local resident Angelo Sangregorio is getting married to Maria Casaletto, 27 years old, residing in Tolve. and sure enough, I found the marriage record in Tolve and also a branch of the family tree. https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 31/5KoPxP9
