Help identifying the name of a village/town

Post by weevie833 »

Attached is a screenshot of the town indicated on my great-grandfather's 1908 immigration arrival roster. Alfonso Curcio's parents resided in the Stella sezione of Napoli, but there are no records of his birth there. I cannot determine what the name is of the town of origin on this form, and I have tried several autofill options to no avail. It looks like Caterla (which does not match anything), or at least starts with a C and ends in -erla (I think).

Here is the original document online in FamilySearch: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1368704

Alfonso is line item #23 (check the prior page for the first half of data).

Your best guess is appreciated! - Steve

Could it be this one? #401
Alfonso Domenico Salvatore Curcio. born in Caserta on 10 December 1854.
Do the parents match?
They are Luigi and Carmela Castaldo.

The odd thing is that Alfonso had a younger sister and an older sister, both 1 1/2 years apart from him, both born in Stella sezione of Napoli. It made no sense that his birth record was nowhere to be found in Stella. Had I not decided on a whim to look at the 1908 immigration manifest one more time, I would not have noticed this Caserta information. And your help sealed the deal!

This is one more step closer to finding the birth record of Alfonso's daughter (my grandmother) Carmela Curcio. Dual citizenship at stake, hopefully.
