No 'Samuele' Marino born in that town in the correct range. On the 1920 census his name is recorded Joseph Marino and there is indeed a Giuseppe Marino born in Chiusa Sclafani on 20 Aug 1878 to parents Antonino Marino, 30, and Anna Maria Frusteri: https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 58/58dXkrO

In his daughter Josephine's obituary, his name is instead given as Calogero. There is also a Calogero born in Chiusa Sclafani on 20 Feb 1880 to parents Salvatore Marino and Giuseppa Gebbia.

I need to see the actual handwriting but I would guess the same for the birth record of their son Salvatore.

From the obituary and 1920 census you can see that his wife Maria had a son from a previous Bondi marriage named Joseph (Giuseppe). His birth record can be found in Chiusa Sclafani on 4 Apr 1899, born to parents Gregorio Bondi, 34, and Maria Bonfiglio.

I believe this is the correct one. This birth date is nearly corroborated by the WWI draft card for 'Calorio' Marino, who lists his wife Marie living at 1020 Royal St. as his nearest relative. This is on the same intersection as the house that they're living in on the 1920 census, at 714 St. Philip St. A lot of these inconsistencies can come from his inability to write and probably read, evidenced by his X mark in place of a signature.rlw254 wrote: 03 Jan 2025, 05:47 In his daughter Josephine's obituary, his name is instead given as Calogero. I can find ship index cards for Calogero Marino on the S. S. Algeria 20 Oct 1902

And interestingly, Gregorio Bondi aboard the exact same ship. His age here is off by a bit, I'd like to see the handwritten record to confirm.
