Am I eligible for 1948 case?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Am I eligible for 1948 case?

Post by pjy2jc »

Hello, all.

GF - born in Italy 1891. Naturalized in the US in 1918.

GM - born in Italy 1897. Never Naturalized. Married GF in 1924 in the US. Died in 1931 enroute to Italy from the US. She either was buried at sea or in Italy.

F - born in the US in 1926.

Am I eligible through my grandmother?

Thank you.

It seems you are not eligible through your grandmother, as pre-1948 Italian law did not allow for the transmission of citizenship through the mother's line. You can still check your grandfather's (GF) citizenship record to see if there is another path to citizenship through him. If he became a US citizen after your father was born, you may still be eligible.

Thank you for your reply!

Unfortunately, my grandfather naturalized in 1918, and my father was born in 1926, so I might not have a case at all.
