Montalto Uffugo, Cosenza Calabria

Post by Cathynap »

I would like to hear from anyone with relatives past or present in Montalto Uffugo in Cosenza Province. I am researching my family there - Napolitano - and have found many names connected to my family (too numerous to name here) and would like to share information and records. I have hundreds of birth, death and marriage records from there.
Thanks.

Hi Cathy.

My family was from Cosenza (a little town called Malito), but my great grandmother was a Napolitano from San Fili...her father was Luigi Napolitano and I believe he was from Montalto Uffugo but I haven't been able to confirm this. I would appreciate any help or info that you could give me. You can email me at nuccia.salvati @ gmail. com (no spaces).

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

There are thousands of records arranged by type of record and year. I
I can tell you I have found Lucchetta's and Speranza's who have married into my family (Napolitano). I have not noticed the name Villecco but that does not mean they are not there. If you could give me more information, I can look for some of your relatives but I would need a time frame and first names. The records I currently have are from 1870 to 1910 and are marriage, birth and death records.
Feel free to email me.

hi - sorry to take so long to reply!

i have a few "certificato di nascita" that were sent to me by a very kind gentleman who works (or worked, not sure since we've lost touch) in montalto uffugo. i have the following (not in order):

- Petronilla Lucchetta, daughter of Ignazio and Caterina (Speranza). b April 27, 1839
-Fedele Lucchetta, son of Saverio and Rosa (Soriano), b Dec. 9. 1830
-Saverio Villecco, son of Fedele and Petronilla (Lucchetta). b October 21, 1855
-Maria Concetta Villecco, daughter of Fedele & Petronilla b. Dec. 4, 1858
-Peitro Villecco, son of Fedele & Petronilla, b. Oct 19, 1861
-Rosa Villecco, daughter of Fedele & Petronilla, b Oct 20 1863
-Grisolia Villecco, daughter (?) of Fedele & Petronilla

I think I'm missing a record on my great grandmother, Caterina, who was born around 1857. I had found a record someone posted about Maria, who was the sister of Caterina, so it's a little confusing.

That's what I have for now... let me know if anything connects.

My records begin with 1870 for birth records and 1866 for death and marrage. I am not that far back yet. The records I do have do have those surnames but there are not a lot of Villecco records in comparison to Lucchetta. I have found 2 Lucchetta's in my family tree - Rosa married to Michele Bruno and Rosina (born about 1830) married to Guiseppe Napolitano. It is interesting to note that the older records list the name as Lucchetta and the newer records often list the name as Luchetta - with 1 C.

I am looking for anybody that might be researching the Musolino family from Calabria. Unfortuanately I am not exactly sure which region, possibly Reggio. I have a Great Grandfather and Great Uncle from there and it has been very difficult to find any info. Thanks either way.

Hi Mike,

I put a link in for italian white pages - I used my families town and it came up with only 1 Musolino. Just change the town name and see what you come up with. Also, the second link is to Ellis Island, I searched by last name Musilino and you can check the results. If you can give more info like your G grandfathers and G uncles full names, full names of spouses, if they've ever been to the USA before and about what year they came, children, where they lived in USA etc. that will all help the people on the site.

This site will give you an idea as to where all Musolino surnames are located. Looks like the heaviest population is in Reggio. Have you tried looking for ship records for your family? That should tell you the exact town they came from.

Brogno and Marino? Not ringing any bells but Montalto Uffugo was pretty big for Calabrian towns - the second largest in the province. I have expanded my research to the whole town since it appears my grandfather was related to half the town 8O . I recently began capturing all the records for each year because I was wasting so much time going back over the same microfilms over and over everytime I found a new surname. If you have more information to give me I can look for you - maybe some years to look for birth or marriage records? You can look at my website to see what I have up so far. Your best bet would be to look at the pubblicazione records I have there. I only have 5 complete years up so far but I will be adding 1892 this weekend. Here is a link to the index of my pages for Montalto Uffugo: http://www.calabriangenealogy.googlepag ... ffugoindex
So far I have found 103 first cousins of my grandfather! 8O And I am missing many. I have microfilms from the 1850's-1910 so if you have any ideas as to who and when I should look for, let me know.

I have ordered the microfilm that includes 1857 so I can look for her birth act for you when it comes in and send you a scanned copy. What is Caterina's last name?

Musolino's from Reggio, Calabria

Raffaele Musolino married to Giovanna Crisera brother Francesco Musolino
Raffaele born feb 18 1865 (if I remember correctly I have a problem with this date but it's on his naturalization card) date of arrival Nov 20 1889 date of naturalization nov 30 1903 NY

Giovanna Crisera came over with Francesco---Ellis Island records--
from port Napoli Last residence Cantona going to Brooklyn NY to husband (quote marks under info for Francesco---his says going to brother Raffaele)

Francesco's last residence was Villa S. G????

Would anyone have a marriage index for this area??? To locate Raffaele and Giovanna???

I have Raffaele and Giovana's childrens birth and marriage records from NY---I would be willing to share

Uffugo
I have just found the "processetti (marriage related) records of Fedele Villecco & Petronilla Lucchetta in the 1854 records of Montalto Uffugo. These processetti records include both their birth records, the death records of Fedele's (who was named after his grandfather), father Saverio, and Fedele's grandmother, Rosa LoValle. If you are interested in copies, let me know.
