Possible Agrigento ancestor on boat with my great grandmother :/

Post by lyn1982 »

 :? :(

I was looking at my great grandmothers manifest again - and I happened to spot this person on her manifest who was it seems from Cerda like her (last residence actually). I noticed the surname is a surname I've seen a lot in Agrigento, San Flippo. This man was also heading to Niagara Falls, NY. I then researched him more and saw that he lived on Grove Ave during his ww1 draft reg- same street as my great grandparents. And another document seems to say he was born in RealMonte, Agrigento. I'm uploading all that here.

I'm legit worried I have a break here- because I thought the Agrigento line was coming from my foundling ggf now I'm worried this dude could have fathered my grandmother. Can anyone get parents names off this birth record I found - I'm pretty sure date matches but I cannot make out any of their names or ages. I'd like to find their marriage and trace them back to hopefully rule out him being related to me.

I've also like to know if the Giovanna Fiandaca here in this manifest could be Fradella mistyped - as thats one of my strongest dna connections - my thoughts being my great grandmother could have been friends with these people and met someone through his wife. I think this is manifest of Cologero (Charles) Sanflippo's wife - since Buffalo is close to Niagara and both lived in Real Monte.

Where is Giovanna Fiandaca listed on this ship manifest?

Calogero's father is Mario (a farmer), aged 32. Mother's first name I can't make out but second name is Domenica. I believe the first name starts with a 'P'. No age given. Her maiden name is Cuffaro.

Fiandaca is found in many locales in Sicily, including Agrigento...

Thanks - I don't recall seeing it before so I thought it was something mistranscribed.

Thanks but where do you see that cause MarcuccioV just said no age was mentioned. If it is 20 that helps a lot - much fewer years to look throught for marriage.

My mistake. I was reading after the phrase after the word moglie (wife) and I thought it was her age.

Could it be Marco, not Mario? Cause I found this on ancestry

Although - I realize there's a bit of a problem now......this manifest appears to say something completely different for fathers name. I can't make out what but its a much longer name than Marco. It also mentions an uncle a Gaspere Militello - that doesn't fit with mothers surname here, so now I don't know if there's multiple Cologero San Flippo's in Niagara Falls or what. But if he's not the one living on Grove Ave, he must be a cousin - too much of a coincidence for one Cologero San Flippo to end up on same street as my great grandparents and another be on boat with my great grandma. I'll upload it here - he is last one on very bottom. I did manage to find a Casper Millitello in Niagara Falls, born in Cerda with one parent from there, one from Agrigento, he's on 13th street in 1920 so am sure its same man.

But I don't get how he has uncle with Militello surname if hes one on birth record - the date for Cologero's birth does match the January 24, 1893 birth date doesn't it? So I'm confused if mothers surname is Cuffaro how does he have a Militello uncle?

There's a Giovanni Giangarossa? (I think? Can't tell) under my great grandmother going to same man, he lists him as a brother in law. I thought it might be Congelosi too like my great grandmas, but its def listed different.

Hi there

Just responding to your question mark here and correcting Domenica's surname.

Yes, the father’s name is definitely Marco and the mother’s name is Domenica Cuffaro Piscitello, Marco’s wife. So I'm understanding that Domenica has a double surname "Cuffaro Piscitello" and one given name, Domenica. However, the surnames Cuffaro and Piscitello do exist as separate surnames.

Hope this helps to clarify things for you.

Thank you - it clears things up regarding the birth - but what I don't understand is - he has uncle with Militello surname - and fathers first name on manifest doesn't look like Marco at all. But the one in the other record was only one I could find living in Niagara Falls, and he's on Grove ave too - so I don't know if cousins or why the names for relatives don't match.
