It is Italian, of course but either comes from abroad or is local to one area of Italy. Presently 60% are in Piemonte region and the rest scattered about the north and down the boot. In the interim I would suggest that if you are truly seeking to establish a family tree then read this website from the beginning where genealogy is discussed and where you may find that all records prior to the 1600 are only involving persons with some nobility or history.
