Searching Caruso

Post by mcmusic »

Hi!
Of all the Italian names to have....Caruso seems to be the most generic and confusing one of all when searching for family! :)
I am trying to find information on Caruso's who originated in Trabia, Sicily. THere were five brothers, Anthony, Giuseppe, Angelo, Francesco and Salvatore. Parents: Salvatoura Balistreri & Joseph - Giussepe Caruso. Salvatore was the only brother who remained in Sicily with his parents. The other boys all travelled by boat to Ellis Island and then travelled to Ontario where they raised their families.
I am now working on our family tree and know little about the son who stayed behind. I do know he has a grandson still living in Trabia. Would love to find records for this brother's family. Anyone know where would I begin?

The civil records (birth, marriage & death acts) for the town of Trabia have been filmed by the LDS Church (Mormons). They cover the years 1820 to 1910. Here is the list of available films.

These films can be ordered/rented through your local LDS-Family History Center. To locate your FHC>

A guide to obtaining these films>

For records before 1820 & after 1910, you will need to write to the town hall.>

Ufficio di Stato Civile
Via Spalla, 28
90019 Trabia (PA)
ITALY
Phone Number: (+39) 091-8146117; Fax: (+39) 091-8147984

Requests should be in Italian & include a self addressed return envelope, international reply coupons, and a copy of your photo ID.

Here are some form letters that will translate your request to Italian.

Hope this helps.

I too have been trying to get more information on Caruso. When I was younger, in the 1960's, I use to go with my parents to visit relatives in Toronto who were Caruso's. They lived on Palmerston Square? It was Joseph and Maria Caruso and their children were Rosa and Elena I believe.
I haven't figured out how they're related though. My mothers maiden name was Rinella and my grandmothers' maiden name was Mancuso.
Any of those names ring a bell?

Hi Jack916, Thanks for this info. The only name that rings a bell is Rubino!
I will call my mom tonight and see what she can remember.
