There is a Loano
in Savona Province
in Liguria Region Loano info
Both Bai & Bay are current surnames in Italy,
especially in Genova.
Also, possible the surname was shortened?
For example, try baie, click begins with Liguria Surnames
Could you tell us what records were you looking at with
these spellings?
Thanks! Valarie
Hi Valarie, thank you for the information. I have a copy of my great grandfathers passport, sent to me from a cousin in France . It does say Bai,that is what is so confusing, because the cousin says the names have not been changed.
I will keep looking
also there are family names of Baccino,Castelli,I suppose from the same area and according to the cousin ,some of thaose families may still be there.I hope someone out there can help.
thanks again

Hello to everyone,
I have great news.I have found some of my grandfathers family in Italy !!!This would be my grandfathers mother's side ,The Baccino Family of Giusvalla also located in Genoa,Albisola and Savona. My cousin & I went to Italy this past August to meet them and what a dream of a lifetime it was. It was over a mis- directed case of wine that we found each other. on the internet.
I am however still searching for the Bai/Bay side of the family from Belvedere/Bologna area and hopefully someday I will find something about them.
I am so excited I just had to write & tell everyone, don't ever stop searching.
Ciao
Not wanting to overlook the obvious I checked and see that there are about 25 Bai (and alterationsof Bai) listed inthe www.familysearch.org website under ancestor search.oreover there are an additonal 50 listed for Bai inthe International index which canbe broguht forward from the bottom of the Bai listings for Italy inthe website. Just in case this went by you.=Peter=
