Hi all - I'm new to the site and researching my family history. I'm looking for information on how to retrieve information about my family. I know information about my grandparent and some of great-grandparents, but that's where it ends right now. Any help, is appreciated:
My Grandfather: Salvatore Aiello, San Fili, b 11.16.1899, Visa issues on 6/29/1954; emigrated to the US on 9.2.1954.
Son of my Great-grandfather: Francesco Aiello - never emigrated.
Son of my Great-grandmother: Carmela Salerno (maiden) - never emigrated.
My Grandmother: Natalina Bernardo (maiden) Aiello, San Fili, b 12.24.1914, emigrated to the US on 5.15.1958
Daughter of my Great-grandfather: Pasquale Bernardo - never emigrated.
Daughter of my Great-grandmother: Francesca Cundari (maiden) - never emigrated.
I also know that Francesca's father's name was Carmine Cundari - never emigrated.
Salvatore Aiello's first wife was Latizia Rende (maiden) Aiello, who passed away. Salvatore and Latizia had four children: Pasquale, Elvira, Emma, and Mario Aiello - all of whom emigrated to the US in the 1950s. After Latizia's death, my grandfather married my grandmother and had only one child, my mother - Francesca Aiello.
I, unfortunately, do not know the date of birth or death for my great-grandparents, but I do have copies of my grandparents birth certificates and marriage certificate from Italy as well as their Italian passports.
Thanks, in advance, for any help you may be able to provide.

boscollkid,
My great grandparents were from San Fili. I do know there are microfilms available from the Family History Center for the town.

You can order them from your nearest FHC. To locate the closest one near you CLICK HERE. You would need to first go to the FHC, order and pay for the rental of the film, and usually in about three weeks they would arrive. Then you can go back and view them for 1 month. If one month isn't enough, you can renew them.
You may also want to consider writing away to the San Fili Comune for actual records. There are standard form letters available on line although I found that you need to be careful with your request or you will get a copy of the certificate (which really doesn't tell you much). You need to request the actual act which is more detailed.
You may also want to contact Cathy N. She has done a lot of detailed research on the nearby towns of Montalto Uffugo and the Aiello surname is very common in that town as well. She may be able to help you.

Re: Aiello, Bernardo, Cundari, Salerno families, San Fili
carmine Cundari was born in san Fili 15 april 1857 from francesco who was 16 and Carmela Palermo who was 20.
You need to check the "portale della storia degli italiani". It's a database of "anagrafe storico", it collect information about people from cosenza province from 1809 to 1920.
Ciao ciao

Hi - I came across your post and I think I have some info for you. Your great-grandfather, Francesco Aiello, is the brother of my great-grandmother, Serafina Aiello. We should join forces and help each other out.

Apologize for late response...or responding again. Going over old emails and links. To review:
My great-grandfather was Carmine Aiello. Born in San Fili, Cosenza in 1858. Was Francesco Aiello born in San Fili, Cosenza 3 June 1827?
Again, sorry for the late response...if I have not previously responded.
