Tonight an elderley friend contacted me to ask if I could help her neighbour.
It seems this person's sister is gravely ill.
(I dont know this person so I will call her Mary and the one who is ill Betty)
Betty (80 years old)was married in 1946 (England) and they had a son born in 1947 later Betty and her husband divorced. The father took the son and as far as I know Betty hasnt seen her son since then (this could be wrong)
Now Mary wants to try to find this son before her sister dies.
Does anyone know of any forums/web sites etc how she could try to contact this person.
I havent given any names or addresses here because I'm not quite sure about the legal side of posting information about people who may still be alive.
I'm sure she would be grateful for any advice.

As long as the information is public information (such as addresses, phone numbers, social security etc.) I can't see where there could be any legal ramifications. Public information is public information.
I think before you post you should probably talk to your elderly friend and have her get all the information she can possibly get about the ex-husband (his full name, siblings names, where born, where siblings lived etc.) to aid in the search.
I say give it a shot.

Thanks Elizabeth
8O I dont know HOW or WHY I decided to try putting in the Surname on the whitepages bt uk web page and only 2 addresses and phone numbers came up. Both matched up with the first letter of the Christian names I had been given So I phoned my friend and asked if I would contact the person to see if it was him and she said YES. So I took the 'bull by the horns' and phoned, and YES it was the correct person and I told him what I knew, I think it was quite a shock for him, (the last time he saw his mother he was 3 years old) so I suggested I wouldnt pass on any inf. to his aunt (he didnt know about her either) until he decides if he wants to get in contact. He's going to 'phone me back in a day or two.
I'm still in shock myself and now I'm wondering if I have done the right thing contacting him.

Good girl Em!!! I'm a true believer that everything happens for a reason, so it was meant to be that you got in touch with this man. Who know's what his father told him, maybe told him when he was a little boy that his mother had died, you never know.
I hope for both the son and the mothers sake, he gets in touch with her or comes to see her. Certainly couldn't hurt at this point.
I'm sending you a PM, check your box.
