Divencenzo Family Alia, Sicily
Divencenzo Family Alia, Sicily
Calagero Divencenzo (34) came to New Orleans, LA. on the SS Bolivia in 1898 (from Palermo) along with two daughters Vincenza (6) and Michelina (2). In same steerage cabin was Carmella Nola (22) who "took in" Michelina. No further info on Calagero or Vincenza. Looking for Calagero's wife and any vital records pertaining to this family. Thank you.

first of all I suggest you to rent one of Alia civil record microfilms
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... ato+civile++
to your closest FHL (mormon church)
Otherwise you can write a request in italian to Alia civil record office
Comune
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Via R. Elena, 1
CAP 90021
Alia (PA) - ITALY
or contact Palermo State Archive

I hope it helps, bye Riccardo

If you are anywhere near Denham Springs, LA, I have 13 rolls of Alia microfilm on indefinite loan at the Denham Springs FHC. Let me know if you need directions and times.

Yes, I am in just over the Magnolia Bridge in GS. Would they be held in your name? Also, I assume the records are in italian. Merrily

Re: Divencenzo Family Alia, Sicily
As shown in the 1898 manifest, the correct spelling of the name is: Calogero Di Vincenzo
Re: Divencenzo Family Alia, Sicily
According to the 10 year index for 1896-1905 of Alia:
Vincenza Di Vincenzo born 1898 (Num di Registro # 44) to Calogero and Giuseppa Severino
According to the 10 year index for 1886-1895 of Alia:
Michele Di Vincenzo born 1895 (Num di Registro # 107) to Calogero and Giuseppa Severino
I realize that the manifest has the ages different, the index has them as I have stated them here.
I have done extensive research of Alia, and I do not think that Calogero or Giuseppa are native to Alia.
Also the indexes for marriages does not show a marriage for them between 1886 and 1905
Furthermore a cursory glance at the birth index around 1865, 1866-1875 show no di Vincenzo at all.
If I had a guess, I think Gisueppa might have died in childbirth.
These indexes show only year, not month or day
Hope this helps
