Looking for some help with local habits and customs.
Have an ancestor who published the bans of marriage in her village but the marriage never happened - this potential bride never married.
The potential groom did marry another woman later that same year in the same village.
However, the couple in the original bans did have several children together and remained in that tiny village for life.
What impediments could have prevented that first marriage from being performed? My assumption is that there was some problem with the woman? Wouldn't there have been a terrible scandal around this situation?

Hi bbfuoco
Could have been that they were related and the request for marriage ended up getting denied.
Just out of curiosity you say they had several children together were the children born before the marriage banns or after?
Can you upload the banns (never got married) and the marriage act (for him when he actually married) to image shack and post here? Also, can you post the birth acts of the children she had?
Regards,
Elizabeth
