Were to check Italian migration to Argentina around 1860 to

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Post by sonsolesg »

Hi I'm trying to collect information about my Italian ancestors from Massa Carrara. Their names are Santiago Giromini and Adelaida Duran (born between 1860 – 1900).

They arrive Argentina before 1900 but I don't have any precise information when they arrive to Argentina, could someone help me with some guides or tips were to start looking for this information???
Really appreciate this

Hi,
I cannot find Santiago Giromini in 1895 Argentina census, but I found:

Name: Adela M. de Duran
Residence: Junín (partido), Buenos Aires, Argentina
Age: 28 years
Edad: 28 años
Estimated birth year: 1867

Birth province (term on form):
Birth province:
Provincia de nacimiento:
Birth nation (term on form): Italiana
Birth nation: Italy
País de nacimiento: Italia

Gender: Female
Sexo: Mujer
Marital status: Married
Estado Civil: Casado

Film number: 733598
Digital GS number: 4161939
Image number: 443
Record number: 22
Collection: Argentina National Census, 1895

Really the name appearing DURAN Adela M.de,and it is the only similar name ( of all similar names in 1895 Argentina census, but the only born in Italy) that I found... and nobody Giromini ..
the arrivals from 1882 to 1920 you can find here, free registration

http://213.212.128.168/radici/ie/defaultie.htm
however it are 14 Giromini emigrated in this period's time in Argentina:

GIROMINI ANNA

GIROMINI ANTONIA

GIROMINI ATTILIO

GIROMINI BENEDETTO

GIROMINI CARLO

GIROMINI GIOVANNI

GIROMINI GIOVANNI

GIROMINI GIUSEPPE

GIROMINI LUIGI

GIROMINI LUIGI

GIROMINI LUIGI

GIROMINI MARIA

GIROMINI MARIA

GIROMINI STEFANO

nobody Santiago ( it is not a italian first name) so maybe he changed the first name ( italian: Santo or Sante) in Argentina...
best regards,
suanj

How did you search census records in Argentina? I've looked online but I can't find an online search. I have family that may have immigrated to Argentina in the early 1900s that I've been trying to track down.

Thanks for your help!
