Salera in Marsicovetere: birth record shows adoption?

Post by PecciSalera »

I came across a birth record of one of my ancestors, but I can't tell if it is a legal guardianship appointed to a brother because the parents are dead, or an adoption.

The birth record for Giovanni Salera is attached. The information in this record may solve the question of whether or not this is the same James/Giovanni Salera who later married Josephine Pecci. Can anyone provide some translation of what this record is about? Thank you,
Lynne

The record is is a transcription of a baptism certificate.
Giovanni Salera, son of Francesco and of Antonia Campiglio was baptized on July 6 1884 in the Church of St Pail, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Interesting, was it common to record a birth/baptism in another country? I am not seeing many of those in the birth records overall. What is the importance/benefit to the family for doing that? I am assuming that the parents, Francesco Salera and Antonia Campiglia, were living in Pittsburgh where the birth took place, along with the 20 year old brother Angelo.
