Troia family from Palermo, Sicily

Post by franktroy »

This is my first attempt at Genealogy. I am doing research of the Troia family from Palermo, Sicily.

My grandfather migrated to the US in 1906 I think with several family members. I have not been able to find any ship logs of this.

My Grandfather,
Paul Frank Troy (born Troia)
1892 in Palermo, Sicily Death
1928 in Scranton, PA

My Great Grandfather Erasmus Troia my Great Grandmother Louise America.

Any pointers is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Frank Troy frank@troy-networks.com

Hoping this might help......

There is a manifest for an Erasmo Troia (Ellis Island lists as Erasino Troia) arriving at NY on Jul 23 1913 (Principe Di Piemonte). He lists his mother as Luigia Americo of Capaci (Province of Palermo). Also lists his birthplace as CAPACI. He was going to meet his brother Francesco Paolo at 512 E. 14th St. NYC. Francesco Paolo can easily be known as Paul. Erasmo was scheduled to travel with his brother Giuseppe (who did not sail)

Erasmo Troia entered the USA at ellisisland, NY on March18,1906 at age 30, on the ship SS Il Piemonte. No other relatives appeared to have traveled with him save for one Tommaso Troia. aged 20. =Peter=

was focusing on Luigia Americo....suggesting the younger Erasmo as possible son of elder Erasmo ... and brother of Paul

How did you get this much detail from the site? What tool did you use? Did you go to www.ellisisland.org for this?

Thank you etalgal and Peter!

Here is another good site to use. You can search by any criteria.

I looked at all the information that you folks sent me thanks.

The problem is I can't seem to find how my grandfather Paul Frank Troy (born Troia) got to the US and who was with him.

Everytime I do a search, the data just do not make sense, the dates and names are off or i get blank returns. The federal census has him coming to the US in 1906 (married to my grandmother with 3 kids) and his YOB is 1892.

All I have on him is his parents name as Erasmus Troia and Louise America but there is no way to put this information in the search.

I know I must be missing something here and any help is appreciated.

Thanks Frank

Another clue?

This may be Paul Frank Troy's WWI Draft Registration Card
He is 26 years old
Since he registered during the 1st registration, he wouldn't have been born in 1881
It appears to be a simple error in calculating his birth year as 1881 instead of 1891

Valarie
First Registration.
The registration on 5 June 1917, was for men aged twenty-one to thirty-one—men born between 6 June 1886 and 5 June 1896.
1917 Card

Frank Powel Troia
(card is not signed)
Elm Street Scranton Lackawanna PA
26 years old
Born 14 Mar 1881 (should be 1891)
Alien
Born in Capace Palermo (Capaci Palermo Sicily)
Laborer, Coal Co Scranton
Married
Wife & 2 Children
---

As suggested earlier, sometimes it helps to review records of possible relatives.
It's possible they may have traveled together on the same manifest.

1917 WWI Card

Salvatore Troia
same address as Francesco Paolo Troia
2 Sep 1889 in Capaci

Can you give us the names of any siblings of Frank Paul? Do you have the first and maiden name of his wife. She and the children might be listed under that.

Unfortunatly I am at the point of getting all that information now, and for the few children left it is difficult to get any information. Their health is not good, but I am trying.

Wife was:
Mary DiGiovanna - 1896-1973 (here parents were Norman DiGiovanna and Marquerite Maretata). I think this is accurate due to the names of 2 of her children.

Children:
1 Lucile 1915-1978
2 Marguerite 1917-1972
3 Frank Paul Troy (my dad) 1919-1981
4 Norman P. Troy 1923-present
5 Frances deceased
6 Joeseph P. Troy 1926-present
7 Sarah 1926 - present

I am trying to put a list of questions together that will give me the best results for searching. I think my uncle Norman is the only mentally capable one that may be able to answer my questions.

Thanks so much!
Frank

The year of birth 1892 appears to be in error since that would make Paolo francesco Troia 14 at time of entry married with 3 children?? =Peter
