Militello / Bosco Detroit / Bay City Michigan
Militello / Bosco Detroit / Bay City Michigan
Hello All!
I have been lurking for a few days and decided to join because I have hit a wall finding my Grandparents.
I only have a bit of info and I can't seem to find them on the Ellis Island Manifests and I was told they came through but I have no idea when.
My Grandpa: James V. (could be for Vincent?) Militello
Born: Nov 9th, 1892 Terrasini Italy
Died: July 25th, 1959 Bay City, Michigan
My Grandma: Rose (Bosco) Militello
Born: March 25th 27th? Born in France?? (I was told)
Died: June 24th, 1975 Bay City, Michigan
I only have a few obits and some info I have been told over the years to start with but so far I can't find them anywhere. If you guys can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Thanks!
Lois M.

Re: Militello / Bosco Detroit / Bay City Michigan
I noticed that Rosa Bosco is not listed on the 1912 arrival manifest.... I found an interesting 1915 arrival manifest for a Giuseppina Bosco, age 14 (approx birth year 1901), coming from Terrasini (she was leaving in Italy her aunt Di Mercurio Pietra) joining her father Antonio Bosco in Congress street - Detroit, then corrected in Bay City - Michigan.
Place of birth of Giuseppina is Lacroise? - Algerie
Until 1962 Algerie was under France:

Do you know if Rose was her real first name?

you're really very lucky because I'm pointing you to a site where you can see the original birth acts for all the Bosco's siblings....
http://anom.archivesnationales.culture. ... e=&x=0&y=0
Bosco Josphine Rosine was born in Lacroix - Algerie on March 27, 1901... she was the daughter of Antonio Bosco (age 36) and Di Mercurio Rosalie (age 26)

Re: Militello / Bosco Detroit / Bay City Michigan
Wow thanks for all the help!!!
I am going to the local library today that has a great Genealogy Dept to do some more research on what you gave me already.
To answer your question no I don't know my Grandmother's real name or my Grandfather's. It depends on what relative you ask...lol
The misspelling of the last name is common, Meletwlo, Millitella, Miletelo etc...so that doesn't surprise me at all.
Both the Militello and Bosco families are huge so that makes it even harder to sort out family members.
I'll let you know what I find out as the search continues.
Thanks again for all your help, anything else would be appreciated.
Have a great day!
Lois M.

Re: Militello / Bosco Detroit / Bay City Michigan
Thanks for that. I am going to do some grave hunting next spring. Cold, wet and rainy weather has hit Michigan hard and it is too cold and damp to walking around...lol
I am planning a trip down to Detroit to do some record digging as well next year too.
I hopefully will find my Grandpa's Ellis Island record soon I am looking under so many names it is taking a while.
I will keep you guys posted on what I find...
Take care,
Lois M.

Thanks for the search... it sure works better than the original one on the site!
I am inputing all the info I have gotten into a family tree maker and getting the stuff you gave me organized.
My Next mission is some family interviews for even more information, old pictures etc...
If I find anything interesting I will pass it along..
Have a great day!

Dear Lois if your hunting around then go to google.com and put in the family name-Genealogy-town of origin in Italy, italy and see if anyone has ever done any research on that surname in that town at any time. You can checkout the surname by changing the nature of the title on google to suit your genealogical whims. =peter=

Peter,
Thanks for the tip. I will give it try....
I am making headway with all the info everyone has shared. I still have alot of stuff to go over and some road trips to make to get some more paperwork but overall I am having a blast.
Thanks for you help! Have a great day!

Re: Militello / Bosco Detroit / Bay City Michigan
With alot of help from people on the site I have managed to get alot done. But once again I am stuck.
I know my Grandfather Vincenzo went to Boston when he came to America and he doesn't show up in Michigan until the 1930 Census in Bay City
He got married in Detroit in 1918
I was told he went to Boston then onto St Louis, Missouri to work on the railroad with his brothers Antonio, Francesco. Both times they went to a cousin.
Antonio and Francesco show up in the 1930 Michigan Census in Detroit
I loose a few years here...lol and I would like to fill in the blanks...
Thanks,
Lois M.
