My Fathers Birth Certificate
Right before my father was married to my mother he had his last name changed to his stepfather's last name. His original birth certificate is in the Village of Amittyville in NY (Amittyville Horror) but they said they cant give it to me because his license has a different last name. They then told me to contact the state but they gave me the run around. Any ideas?

GGF naturalization record
I spoke with a women from a service who said he was naturalized 3 months after my grandmothers birth in 1932. They said they would get it for me for a price but i figured I would try it on my own. I emailed

and she said
Dear Mr. Hart,
This Branch has photographic copies of naturalization records from
1792-1906, filed in Federal, State, and local courts located in New York
City. Also among our holdings are naturalization records filed in the
U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (Manhattan and
Bronx), 1824-1991, and the Eastern District of New York (Brooklyn,
Queens, and Staten Island), 1865-1991.
We searched our Southern (Manhattan, Bronx) and Easter District
(Brooklyn, Queens) naturalization indexes and we were unable to find the
name Saverino Verni.
WHat do I do now?

Just guessing at this point: Address should not have CAP CODE but the actual numbers, this is their "zip" code system, the numbers come before the city/town name.
You don't have to send money, I never did, got all mine documents, even in triplicate. There are multiple generic form letters to use if you feel yours wasn't sufficient, but it worked for one document already, so it should be ok.
Re: Help with obtaining certain documents
Are you dealing with an actual person or doing it through the website and the dealing with http://www.vitalchek.com/? There must be a way for you to prove you are entitled to the document, just have to pursue it. I would try calling the department of health or vital records department for the state. Start at this link: http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/birth.htmgrandamn wrote:My Fathers Birth Certificate

Looks like you might need a court order:
So go that route... research the process and submit the court order. If you have money, just hire an attorney to fleece you and handle it.Only by order of a New York State Court may a spouse, child or other persons obtain a copy of a birth certificate.

Re: Help with obtaining certain documents
Check census records and start collecting "no records" responses. Submit a G-1041A from the USCIS, search in the forums for links.grandamn wrote:GGF naturalization record
