Hi everyone
I too have been researching my Italian heritage and have come to a bit of a dead end.
My grandfather was a Filippo Cutugno sometimes spelt Cotugno who was born in Messina in 1896 to parents Santo/Santi Cutugno and his wife Guiseppa Scarfi.
Santo and Guiseppa were married in Torre Faro in 1888 from what records I have been given.
Does anyone know if the surname of Cutugno is a popular Italian surname particularly in Messina?
My grandfather Filippo aka Phillip eventually immigrated to Australia in the early 1900's which is where I am from.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Kirsty.
CUTUGNO from Torre Faro Messina.
Re: CUTUGNO from Torre Faro Messina.
There are two places I usually look when I have a question like yours regarding a surname: the gens.labo site and the Italian white pages.
http://gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/
http://www.paginebianche.it
Check these sites and you will find the Cutugno name in Torre Faro (15 times) and you will find the Cotugno name in Messina. The gens.labo site will show where the name is dispursed throughout Italy.
