DiPuccio, Puccio, Pucci, Meneghetti, Manighetti surnames
I am getting ready to travel to Italy and will have limited time to do research. The Dipuccio line is my husband's and they are from Lucca. If Lucca is also similar to a "county", then how will I know where to look for records?

Hello!
If you mean the province of Lucca you may be able to get military records.
Vital records are kept at the comune (town).
Do you need any help trying to figure out the comune (from US records)?

Hi Valarie,
All I know is that the Dipuccio line is from Lucca so yes, I would love help! I have a Gabriel Dipuccio who came to the US between 1882-1886. His father's name was Jacob but I don't have anything else. I was hoping to get more info. on Gabriel and Jacob. Would there be any birth, marriage or death records at the Archivo di Stato in Lucca? Also, is there a way to find out the comune/town from US records?
Thanks!
Cathy

Hi ,
Do you have Gabriele's ship's manifests? I think he travelled back and forth 2 or 3 times. I'll post them if you do not have them.

Hi there,
I found 3 of them: 1896; 1903 on the SS La Touraine (actually he is not on this list, but his wife Maria and children are) and 1912 on the Konig Albert. Did you find other ones? I don't have the one on which he originally came over on. I got my information off Ancestry.com. Is that where you are looking?
Thanks for taking the time to look those up and post the info!

Yes, that is him! Thanks! Looks like he came back prior to his wife and children who didn't return until 1903.

I saw the 1896 manifest. Why do you think this was not his first trip?

Here you can check the distribution of the name in Tuscany. I think there is a good chance they were from the town of Lucca in the province of Lucca.

Here is some info on Lucca.

Hi again,
I almost missed your first post about the 1896 manifest question. Anyway, Gabriel was here prior to 1896 - he married in 1888 in Kansas City, MO and had children soon after. His naturalization paper is dated 1896.
Also, thanks for the other links. I will check them out later today!

Hello!
Looks like you and mj have the US records that would have given the place of birth if it had been different from Lucca.
On wife Mary's death certificate from FamilySearch Pilot
Do you know which town she was born in?
Thank you,
Valarie

Hi vj,
It's listed on the death certificate as Seuvilla and my mother in law wrote down Seurilla, Venice but I can't find any info on a town with that name or even close. I think I saw Venice listed on a record but I can't remember where off the top of my head.
Thanks for another link to a genealogy site. I believe I have bookmarked several already for future use.
