Avellino Military Record

I have a Military Record for an ancestor born in Avellino in 1889 which I am unable to translate.

It is a very large document with considerable detail which seems to suggest more than "routine" service.

If there is anyone who can provide a resource for such a complex translation, I would be most grateful.

The original is two pages about 13 inches by 16 inches. Unfortunately, I had to make several scans to reproduce it.

I can't make out much of it, but that third photo down looks like it makes mention of having liberated prisoners of war?

I don't know anything about Giuseppe Dello Iacono's military experience. But I do have a 1920-ish family photo in which he seems to be wearing some kind of unusual lapel pin which I think may be military in nature.

He also had a son, who died as a 25-year-old WWII hero in 1945.

I guess part of me is looking for a family tradition of military valor ...

but that document is way beyond my less-than-rudimentary translation skills ...

I appreciate your checking in .. so far, what you translated appears accurate. Giuseppe Dello Iacono's parents were Agostino Dello Iacono and Maria Carolina (Nicolina) Carideo, and he was born in Torre le Nocelle March 1889.

I have no knowledge that he was ever abroad ... although it is such a common name, he has proven hard to track.

Can you perhaps decipher any of the later service?

Of course, I'm hoping it's "good" news, rather than "bad" news ... but of course, only seek the truth.

This site shows five Dello Iacono's who died in service to Italy during WWII. The third and fourth columns are date and place of birth. Click the Arrow in the right-hand column to see detail on the person. On the next page, you will see Burial place (Luogo Sepoltura), date of death (Data Decesso), and place of death (Luogo Decesso).

This is a wonderful resource site! The very first listing, Agostino Dello Iacono is the son of the ancestor I seek.

I have a photograph of the tombstone of the Giuseppe Dello Iacono (b. 1889) whose miltary service I am trying to find out; his wife; and their son Agostino, the War hero who died in 1945.

The OTHER Giuseppe Dello Iacono, b. 1916, so far does not appear to be related, but it's too soon to know for sure. I have no other documentation of him than his war death as shown on this site.

It seems as though my ancestor was in the service quite a long time ... does anyone know if this was typical?

Johnnyonthespot: Regarding the Giuseppe Dello Iacono born in 1916, died in Nov 1940, it seems unlikely he was a son of MY Giuseppe. Most possibly a nephew. I have recorded the new information in hopes of finding a future connection.

I am still searching for the marriage (likely in Montemiletto around 1919) of MY Giuseppe Dello Iacono, b. 1889 and one Maria Musto, whom I know to be the mother of Agostino Dello Iacono, b. Jul 1920. At this point, I believe he was their first child.

This suggests another question ... would the military document indicate if a man was single or married? In other words, can I assume Giuseppe was not married when he left the service in Aug 1919?
