Yorio/Iorio family

Post by cyorio »

I am researching my husband's family. His grandfather, Rosario Yorio, was born in Castelchevita (sp?) near Naples about 1883. He came to US around 1900 and settled first in Pennsylvania then Corning, NY. Married Giovannina Crisci. I am unable to find Ellis Island records or any other information. His father was Leopoldo Iorio. I'm pretty sure the surname was changed to Yorio from Iorio in this country. Any information would be appreciated.

There is much info about NY state located on fultonhistory.com. They have indexed many newspapers over more than 100 years. Try different versions of the name(s) and see if you get any hits. It has provided me with a wealth of info.
Good luck,

Thank you, thank you! I searched for Yorio with an I but not with a J. I knew he came through Ellis Island so wondered why couldn't find him. I so much appreciate all your help. Are you part of the Yorio/Iorio/Jorio family?

Hello C. Yorio

My Father Frank is Carmine G Fortino's Nephew.

My Late Grandfather Giuseppe was Carmine G Fortino and Bruno Fortino's Brother.

My Name is Joe (Giuseppe)

I am very well aquainted with your Husband's Aunt Lucy

She is an awesome Lady and is now I believe 102 Years Old.

Question

Please reply

Also found article about Carmen G Fortino, Corning, NY, buying a fruit business in 1948. It states he immigrated to US with brother Bruno from Italy when he was 16. Married Lucy Yorio in 1932.
