Santa Maria queries

Post by oilman19 »

I would like to compliment the fantastic job that everyone does on these forums. Only in my wildest dreams could I have imagined such a helpful site for my Italian roots. I try to read as many posts as possible to educate myself about genealogical resources.
I like to do as much research as possible before asking for help, but I can say you have already taken down some brick walls that I never thought I could get over. Your resources and dedication continue to amaze me.
I order microfilms and pour over them at the LDS center whenever possible using my very limited ability to read Italian (looking for familiar names). Someone is always available to help me to discern what I have found (translations) even when it turns not to be what I am looking for. Your patience with me is very much appreciated.
I'll bet you knew there was going to be a question in this whole blog. Well, here it is. Am I the only person researching in the town of Santa Maria Capua Vetere? Of all the postings I have read, I have not seen one reference to this town.
Obviously, if I found someone with a common interest in this town, we might be able to share some resources. Just asking if I might have missed an opportunity. Again, thank you for all of your help. Happy Birthday, Peter.

Jim,

It has been my pleasure to help when and where I may have done so.

If you click the "Search' link above and then search for "Santa Maria Capua Vetere" being certain to select the "Search for all terms" option, you will find posts from a few other members who have inquired about that comune.

Dear Jim thank you for the greetings. Not knowing if you can read Italian but there is a website www.tiscali.it and put in the Santa Maria Capua Vetere which will give you a mini google for the town. There may be information of interest to you. =Peter=

Peter,
I wish I could read Italian. I think I am too old to learn.

Thank you,

Jim

Oh so sorry but could you select websites at random youmight be surprised at how much your seeing as well as reading and understanding.
The words Societa in Italian would indicate town social groups that may exist thruout the world as well as in town. I do not know how old you are but 6 months at an italian univeristy in the woods learning Italian at the hands of fellow female/male students will take you farther than you can imagine. =Peter

Jim, you can paste any link into the Google translator, set the from/to languages and click Translate.

Imperfect, sure, but usually good enough to get a general idea of what is being talked about.

Here's a link to the translated version of Peter's search page. Notice how in most cases when you click one of the links on that page, Google is still "in charge" and will show you a translated version of each page in succession.

I may have missed the meaning of this question, but from the main Google translator site (http://translate.google.com) or from the top of a translated page such as the one I linked to earlier, just change the "Translate into" language from English to Finnish, Sweedish, Danish, etc.
