LAMPIASI/LAMBIASE Family Palermo

Doing some genealogy for a friend - Looking for a CIRO LAMBIASE/LAMPIASI
supposed to be born in Palermo, abt 1854-1857. Ciro emigrated to the US abt 1889. Ciro married Frances (last name unknown) possibly abt 1878, unless there was a prior marriage for both. Found in Chicago, IL in the 1930 and 1920 census as Ciro LANDISE.

Children: Christopher, Thomas, Joseph, Marie, James, all born probably New York 1889-1903. All of them in Chicago by 1920. Do not know when they changed name from Lambiasi to Landise. Have not found family earlier than 1920 census under either name. Ciro possibly emigrated on ship "Giava" from Palermo to NY, arr 7 Jan 1891.

Dear Bonnie,
I have been doing some research when I came upon your query.
I am Joseph Landise/Lambiase's granddaughter. Joseph had 3 children
Ciro, John and Francis.

The ship SSCaledonia left port on 1888 with 4 children named Lambiase.
Alfonso, age 13, Antonio, 3, Rosa 10 and Vincenzo 5. I cannot find a Ciro Lambiase in any ships records leaving Palermo.

There are 3 manifest with Ciro Lampiase or Lambiasi.... these manifests have Ciro under the mother's maiden name... instead of the fathers. (one father was Angelo Russo)

On one manifest - 1890... Ciro was age 5

The other 2 manifests....has little Ciro age 2 (US born) making two trips in 4 months (1906) with brother Crisotofero (US born) and aunt (?) Anna Maria...

If this is relevant... I will post the rest of the information.

Thank you for the info, Ciro Lampiasi/Lambiase's children were born in 1895, so we are looking for an older person who in 1890 would have been in his 30's or 40's. If you have any information of an adult that would be very helpful.

Dear Eydie. I suggest that you file NARA form 81 (USA passenger arrivals) for Ciro Lambiase just to double check but I think there is a possibility that one Pasquale Lambiase, aged 33 arrived on the GERGOVIA on 5/25/1888 from Cava de'Tirreni, Province of Salerno Postale 84013. There are currently 175 persons surnamed Lambiase in Cava De' Tirreni now so the town is good, the age is about right, the ship name fits and is only 2 years from 1891 (1890 actually since 1/7/1891 is the date). Since he was 33 at time of entry his birthyear would be 1855/1856. This is why I suggested the form 81 to double check (go to www.Nara.gov. select search, select immigration and then select order forms). Peter

Dear Eydie further to being Sicilkian. I check and saw that there are only 4 places in Sicily with persons named Lambiase but there are more than 150 towns in the Caserta area with the Lambiase surname. So going by the numbers I think Ciro was not Sicilian but from the Campania region of Naples,Salerno Caserta and Avellinoi provinces. Peter

Dear Bonnie, Cousin Johnny, Uncle Joseph's son says hello and asks how you are. If my research is correct I think the family name is Lampiasi.
There is a record of Ciro Lampiasi birth, 1806 Mezzojuso, Termini, Palermo, Died July 18, 1846 Parents Cristoforo Lampiasi, Mother, Giuseppa, Spouse Francesca Carniglia, married 1831. The names are a real close fit. But there is a generation missing that right now I cannot find. I will keep looking. Eydie

Dear Peter, Thank you for all your help. I have done more research and have found out from my family that our original name was Lampiasi and did find a listing from 1806 Mezzojuso, Termini, Palermo. May I ask how one gets the passenger lists from ships besides theshiplist? Thank you for all your help, this is becoming fun research. Eydie

You need dates or time references by year,ports of dpearture or arrival or destination in the USA upon arrival. Arrival years and place f birth. Having that you then have to review NYC port on micorfilm and NARA form 81 (remeber I told you above) and. All other reports are on micorfilm at Family History Library.If you know name of ship that helps but not all ships have passenger lists...This is where its at. Peter
