Morda Surname

Post by rmorda »

Good morning everyone,

I would like to find out more about the surname Morda, which is my surname as well. I find that most of the other sides of my family have very common italian surnames (Rossini, Calabrese, and Spano).

I have found a few relatives so far, but I don't think they can go much farther back than their grandparents. I know my Morda side is from Reggio Calabria, possibly in or near Diminniti.

Is there any way to get records from a small town like Diminniti? Did they even have accurate records back then ie. the 1800's or earlier?

I always feel like I have a roadblock in front of me where either my relatives don't know anything or don't care, and I have no idea how to find out more information without trying to google others with the same surname as me to see if there is a connection....

Does anyone know if there are any geneologists in Reggio that can be contacted? I think the only real way to get the answers I'm looking for would be to go to Italy and see what can be found.....

According to the Italian telephone listings, there are some 70'ish Morda and Mordà in Italy today.

You might try wrting to several of them and see what turns up. This site, http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tters.html can possibly be of help.

Thanks for your help and quick responses!

However, the only troubel with trying to call these people is the language barrier, I speak very little Italian, let alone Dialect....

I would like to get in touch with a geneologist in Calabria, has anyone ever tried this?
