Can anyone help with finding anything else on Nicola Pronati, born 1858, Italy, last place of residence Avellino.
On the only record I can find, he entered Ellis Island on 10th July 1899 on the Chateau Yquem.
Any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for Nicola Pronati
Re: Looking for Nicola Pronati
Good morning Olga
If the arrival manifest is this one:
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0006
I believe the last name was Pionati
Maybe a second arrival (1903) for the same person?

Good morning, Laura.
Many thanks for that. The second manifest definitely looks like Pionati.
I'll strike him off my list then. I was never sure about him.
Thanks again.

Re: Looking for Nicola Pronati
It is a good point: the name Pronati does not exist in modrn Italy.
Pionati is only slightly less non-existent, with just seven hits in the Italian telephone directory.

Still may be chasing the wrong name/spelling...

Re: Looking for Nicola Pronati
Thanks Johnny. I checked the pagine bianche and the cognome Pionati still exists in Avellino.
Pronati is definitely the surname I am searching for - pre 1930s.
Some time during the 1930s my nonna and her brothers had the name changed back legally to the original Pronat. My mother knows all the Pronats who are still in Italy (now in the south, mostly). They are all her cousins etc.
Anyway, I have erased Nicola from my list and I am now turning my attention to the couple of Pronati's I have come across in Argentina.
I only want to know where in Italy they were born and the names of their parents.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Looking for Nicola Pronati
Hi Laura,
Thanks for the tip.
I've seen Francisco and Juan in the Argentina sites who are both strong contenders for being my family. At least one of them is on Hugo Alloa's family tree in Argentina and originated in the right area of Piemonte, but when I contacted him 2 or 3 years ago about it, he had no other information.
Apart from what is on those sites, I can't find anything else on these 2.
Giulio born in Bricherasio and his daughter Emilia born in Torino are definitely our family, but I'll have to dig deeper on Giulio to find out exactly who his father was. My mother's cousin in Italy has been in contact with the Registrar of Births in Pinerolo, so I'll pass the name on to him to see what the Registrar can find out.
Thanks again,
Olga
