Looking for Demaggio / Dimaggio family

Post by crystalh »

my great grandma Argentina Demaggio and Joseph Demaggio came from A. Italy to Richmond NY i believe about 1906. most of my grandma's side of the family live in FL and some in NY and in Italy. my great grandma Argentina was from Calabria Italy. my grandma's name is Rose / Rosie she had/ has about 14 brothers and sisters.

almost all my grandma's bothers spell there name Dimaggio not Demaggio so it gets very confusing.

These are my Grandma Rose's brothers and sisters
Angelina Demaggio
Dominic Demaggio
Grace Demaggio
Marie Demaggio
Tessie Demaggio
Vito Demaggio
Rose Demaggio < this is my grandma
Johnny Demaggio
Frankie Demaggio
Gloria Demaggio
May Demaggio
Peta Demaggio
Tony Demaggio

there was 1 more sister i believe her name was Florine or Florina but she passed away very young. they where all born in Duval FL.
I also believe my great great grandpa was name Joseph Demaggio born in Italy.

Thank you so much! how did you find all of this information? the people you have found are my great grand parents all but for the 1 i believe. i am also looking for my Demaggio relatives and my ancestors. I'm trying to learn more about my family so that i can put together a family tree but it has not been easy I'v hit a brick wall trying to trace my family back. my aunt told me that my great grandma Argentina has a middle or madden name she believes is Aquest. also i might have a great great uncle named Joseph Demaggio that lived in NY. my grandma Rose has always told me that we have alot of family back in Italy. we can't ask her anything anymore about the family because she has Alzheimer's disease. she has also told me that she never meet her grandpa Joseph because he died pretty young i believe back in Italy. i don't know much & the last name Aquest might not even be right i don't know.

Also the las name DiMaggio, De Mayo (mine), dimaio, demaio, de maio etc are all the same, most of the spellings here in the US were done wrong as many of the Italian immigrants would just say their names and the officer taking the names down would write them as he understood or heard the pronunciation.

As far as I know, my great grandfather Nicolas De Mayo came from the Napoli area to the US then on to Venezuela in the very late 1800's then went back to Italy (to die there) still trying to find the cemetary he is buried at. I also found out that Joe DiMaggio is 2nd cousin to my grandfather (ain't this world small)

I am still trying to find information on where to get birth records in the Napoli area for my great grandfather (as I would love to acquire the Italian citizenship
