Antonio Scialla nascita
Antonio Scialla nascita
Hi,
I have had this birth act for a few months now, hoping that my skills would improve sufficiently to make some sense of it. They haven't.
I see a woman's name as the declarant, but she has the same surname as the baby.
I see no father's name.
I see a matrimoni annotation made 12 years after the birth.
Needless to say, I am thoroughly confused by this one.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Antonio Scialla nascita
On March 7th, 1880, the infant's mother herself presented the child who was born to her on the third out of a natural union. The infant was given the mother's maiden name as its surname. The father was probably a nobleman, clergyman, or even a married man. The father is not named in the record
Re: Antonio Scialla nascita
Actually the father is named in the margin of the record, as she married him.
Re: Antonio Scialla nascita
I'm having trouble making out the month-day 3, 1872. Father was Vito Caliandro. Act #203
Re: Antonio Scialla nascita
Would Antonio keep his mother's surname?

Re: Antonio Scialla nascita
sorry the year is 1892 and not 1872 and their marriage legitimized their son
Re: Antonio Scialla nascita
There may be an act of recognition in which the child's surname was legally changed.

L'atto di ricognizione
Re: Antonio Scialla nascita
I presume I would find that in the 1892 documents for the town of S.M.?

Re: Antonio Scialla nascita
My grandfather's surname was legally changed by a town notary, but he was abandoned and born some 6 weeks before his supposed natural parents married. His surname was changed to that of the father when the parents came forward to reclaim him when he was 2 years and 10 months old. Prior to that, his surname was one that had been invented by the town official.
Re: Antonio Scialla nascita
I don't honestly know for sure, Jim.
Re: Antonio Scialla nascita
So this would probably not be in the scanned documents on microfilm at the LDS center?

Re: Antonio Scialla nascita
oh, I am reading the record again and it says she was in a natural union with a single man
Re: Antonio Scialla nascita
and that he wasn't a relative of hers
Re: Antonio Scialla nascita
or a kin in any degree which would hinder recognition
