Exact location of Poia
Can someone help me find the exact location of the town of Poia in Northern Italy. Both my grandparents were born and married there. Also grandmother had a sister who was a nun in Poia. Surnames Bassetti and Krorfti. Can anyone help with any information. Thank You.

Re: Exact location of Poia
Perhaps you mean Frazione Poia, Comune di Lomaso, Provincia di Trento, Regione di Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, Northeastern Italy
According to this Wikipedia entry for Lomasso ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lomaso ), "On January 1, 2010 it merged, with Bleggio Inferiore, in the new municipality of Comano Terme."
Comano Terme's website: http://www.comune.comanoterme.tn.it/

Re: Exact location of Poia
The Italian telephone dirctory lists several Bassetti's in the area: http://www.paginebianche.it/execute.cgi ... mano+Terme
The surname Krorfti is a bit odd, not the least becasue the letter "K" in the Italian alphabet is reserved only for foreign words. Do you have any alternate spellings?

Re: Exact location of Poia
Thank you for all the info regarding Poia. I will check out the sites that you sent.
Regarding the spelling of Krorfti I too thought it was a very odd spelling for Italy. I just learned from my mother's birth certificate that that was my grandmother's maiden name. I am wondering if perhaps that would be from the Austrian/German side of lineage because I am coming up with nothing regarding that name.
New to this site, but I think it will be very useful for my future.
Thanks for your reply.

Re: Exact location of Poia
Kroft - without the second "r" or the "i" appears to be a strongly german name; the "i" may have been added at some point to give it an Italian-like ending.
The extra "r" may simply be a typo introduced at some point in the past.
It's all guesswork, or course. I did not see a single entry of any kind on ancestry . com for either Krorft or Krorfti.

Re: Exact location of Poia
With the name Bassetti, you are almost certainly looking at Poia-Godenza, Trentino
http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=poia&c ... ,%20Lomaso
I have strong links with this area, and I have Bassetti's in my tree. If you give me names, I will see if they appear. I am in the middle of doing extensive research into that area (mainly Lundo)

Hi,
My dad is from Lundo and is a Bassetti. His dad married a Sara Bottesi (from what I remember) and his first cousins are also Bassetti's in Lundo. Their old house was next door to the Lundo church.
